Whether you’re creating an old-fashioned flyer or designing an informational web page or blog post, you only have a matter of seconds to get your readers’ attention. Consumers In the information age are inundated with advertisements everywhere they go, and you have your work cut out for you if you want to entice them to read further. Fortunately, designing eye-catching advertisements is easier than you think!

It’s easy to find great online templates to help you create great-looking business documents, and all you have to do is insert your photos and advertising copy. You can also adjust settings and colors on most desktop publishing templates to suit your own preferences. Here are a few easy-to-follow design tips to help you get started:

Use colors to tell your story-Your company spent a lot of time developing a logo and brand, and you should be sure to extend your brand in your advertisements. Bright colors like yellow and red are great ways to create a call to action but use them sparingly. If you’re producing a lengthier technical manual, neutral colors can add visual impact, and they won’t steal the thunder from your text.

Rule of thirds-The rule of thirds is a standard composition principle widely used in art and graphic design. If you divide your page into thirds with imaginary vertical and horizontal lines, your most interesting subject matter should be lined up at the points where those lines intersect. This usually means lining up your photo near the top of the page and slightly off-center.

Less is more-Readers don’t like seeing documents or webpages full of clutter, and walls of text can easily scare readers away. Leave plenty of white space on the page, and break large paragraphs up into “scannable” copy.
